On Friday, May 1, through dreary weather, fans came out to The Lost Horizon to celebrate Overtired’s new album “Sweet Dreams” and the play through of its entirety as well as bandmate Rick Dias’s (Beaustars) birthday.
Starting the night of celebration was Poetry for Boys, a local alternative rock band that is set to open for Almost Monday on June 9th. The four bandmates took on the stage with singles such as ‘I Love You So,’ which were crowd favorites. Their bio states, “we aim to please your ears…” and judging by the crowd’s reaction, it is safe to say they certainly did.

With the night more than warmed up, Second Suiter, a Binghamton punk band, amped up the night with their electric energy. Tyler Reed, singer and guitarist, showed the punk rock flair from the early 2000’s, even sporting a Green Day heart-shaped grenade tattoo. The crowd moshed to their set, but they made a surprising choice to play ‘HOT TO GO’ in an alternative style, which paid off.

Sophie’s Body, a Boston-based bubble grunge band, turned up the dial further, performing top songs from their EP “Mandatory Girl.” By this time, the crowd had filled in beyond the sunken pit, but the surrounding standing areas as well. Sophie McMinn, singer and guitarist, owned the stage even while being sprayed by bubbles by a fellow bandmate.

As Overtired came on, everyone was focused on their entrance and the pause right before going into ‘I Thought You Were My Friend.’ Members Justin Jarmacz, Rick Dias, and Jay Woodard were ear-to-ear smiling at the turnout for their night of celebration as friends, family, and fans packed into the remaining room.
Before they were too far into the set, they stopped for everyone to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to Beaustars. It wasn’t long before everyone was back to moshing, and even some younger kids were learning their way into moshing with the help of older fans to gently introduce them.

The community and support continued as Jarmacz introduced ‘Out of Time’ from their debut album “A Day In The Grief,” dedicating it to his mom, “This band wouldn’t be here without her. I miss her every day.”
As the set started to edge on the last few songs, Jarmacz commented on how he should still be wearing a cast from a minor injury weeks prior. “I’m supposed to have a cast on, but rock is more important. Fuck a cast.” Crowd members laughed and cheered at his perseverance, one even replying how ‘Fuck A Cast’ would be a great time for a podcast.

‘Going Through A Lot’ closed out their set, but not the night. Even as their equipment was being taken down, congratulations were being given at their momentous release. As it rained outside, fans walked away from The Lost Horizon smiling and chattering, reminiscing in the night about Overtired’s performance.
