Multi-instrumentalist and producer Sean Williamson, performing under the stage name Velocihamster, is set to release a lap steel tribute track to jam-band greats Phish with a heavy metal version of the song “Buried Alive” on Groundhog Day, February 2, via Born Free, Then Cages Music.

Velocihamster, which was recognized by Guitar World & Guitar Player magazines in 2018 as “the world’s only lap steel metal band,” has found a unique niche showcasing the extraordinary reach of the steel guitar via heavy metal tributes to a vast array of popular artists.
“Velocihamster started as a purely original music endeavor in hopes of inspiring a new generation of steel players but seems to have found its true calling through dismantling unexpected cover songs with reckless abandon. There is a certain satisfaction in seeing a metal fan realize they are enjoying a Phish song.”
– Sean Williamson
At the heart of Velocihamster’s sound is Sean Williamson’s mastery of the lap steel guitar. Williamson has nurtured his expertise in the lap steel guitar to use it as a tool of both aggression and elegance. The tone Velocihamster has cultivated is rich and immersive. Going into “Buried Alive,” listeners can expect Williamson’s performance to be eerily electrifying right from the start.
The single features longtime collaborator Matt Turner (Greg Kock, Static Chicken) on fretless bass guitar, drummer Rob Buehler (Stealin’ Strings), and keyboardist Brooks Milgate. Gary Tanin had mastered the single at Daystorm Music.
