Folk duo Lea Thomas and John Thayer, who call themselves Miyaxx, released new single “Go Easy” August 19 ahead of their debut album Hold Your Ego Out Like a Sun, coming out September 16.
Although the Catskill pair have collaborated for over a decade, this is their first album together. Vocalist, songwriter and guitarist Thomas released her debut album Cosmos Forever in 2024. Her mix of wordless hums and mind-bending lyrics have been compared to Elizabeth Fraser and Liz Harris.
Percussionist, audio engineer and record producer Thayer joins Thomas in their duo band Miyaxx to create “nighttime fuzz folk” sounds in Hold Your Ego Out Like a Sun. The two artists are the only musical contributors on the album.
“Go Easy” is a slow, ethereal track that builds upon a catchy bass and rhythmic drums. The mesmerizing vocals and soft guitar leaves the listener with a grandiose sense of nostalgia. Lyrics mentioning “mist in the morning” and “sun on warmed skin” keep the listener connected to nature, echoing Thomas’ intentions with the tune.

“This song speaks to the way life’s highs and lows can mirror the cycles of the seasons. I had found myself in a challenging time, in an ‘inner-winter’ of sorts, and was finding hope in remembering the ease of a warm summer day, trusting that in a world where change is constant, the wheel of the year will inevitably bring me back to brighter days again,” Thomas said about “the song “Go Easy.”
Directed by Thomas’ friend Hannah Rosa Lewis-Lopes, the music video was shot in the same location during two different times of year.
“The first shoot took place on a hot summer day, and the second shoot was in the dead of winter, fresh after a snow storm,” Thomas said.

Thayer’s crackling mix matches Lewis-Lopes’ grainy visuals of Thomas to create a natural, rustic energy. Simplistic, natural looks and sound emphasize Thomas’ deeper seasonal connection behind the track.
“Go Easy” follows the single “Blue Cloud White Sky,” released July 19. The track isolates Thomas’s vocals and guitar for a calming, intriguing feeling and furthers the duo’s environmental lyricism.
Both tracks are featured in Hold Your Ego Out Like a Sun, coming out September 16. Miyaxx will have an album release party September 17 at the Avalon Lounge in Catskills.
