Ithaca-based Drew Kiddoo and The Blackouts bring their rowdy yet heartfelt country rock to their latest single, “Diggin’ My Own Graveyard.”

The second release off their upcoming album Black Widow, “Diggin’ My Own Graveyard” is not your average dark, hard-luck folk song. There’s bad habits, self-destruction, and knowing exactly where your choices are taking you, the band chose to tell this story in a way that went beyond the music. And what started as a song became a strange short film about confronting the things inside your own head while trying to find your way home.
The refrain “Diggin’ my own graveyard in a hole that I call home” shapes the song, pairing fatalistic lyrics with the rough-edged spirit and dark wit of outlaw country, with the essence old-timey bluegrass included.

Blending outlaw country, Americana, honky-tonk, rockabilly, folk, and punk all into an original sound, Drew Kiddoo and the Blackouts have another stellar showing, following this summer’s “Black Widow.”
Written by Drew Kiddoo and produced by The Blackouts – Johnny VanName (guitar), Seth Gregory (bass), Shawn Matzke (drums) – the video for “Diggin’ My Own Graveyard” can be viewed below. Stream it here.
