Indie pop singer-songwriter Alnev, currently based in Brooklyn, released his newest single “a little more” today, Nov. 4. Centering upbeat guitar strumming and the singer’s emotion-fueled voice, the song tells a vivid story of yearning for a relationship that is doomed to fail.

Alnev, who grew up in an Orthodox Chabad Jewish household, began writing songs while attending an alternative Jewish high school. He kept writing, eventually releasing his first single, “Give Love,” in 2019. He soon followed “Give Love” with a few more singles and a 2024 debut EP titled Vincent. His newly released single, “a little more,” was produced by Cam Pepe and mixed and mastered by Harper James. The song is his first release since his second EP, and everything you left was blue, came out in November 2025.
Acoustic guitar remains prominent throughout “a little more.” Sometimes muted and sometimes at full strength, guitar strumming provides a steady background over which Alnev’s vocals and lyrics take center stage. The singer’s voice is by far the emotional core of the song, underscoring the vulnerability of the lyrics.

Alnev has spoken about how important his Jewish faith is to him. Religion is a key aspect of his identity, and the lyrics of “a little more” seem to reflect this through repeated references to God, belief, and the soul. The core of the song seems to be an inner conflict between love and religion, with lines such as “I’ve done my bargaining with God / hoping He doesn’t notice” and “I’ll pay with my soul / and suffer, I know / for a little more” highlighting the singer’s emotional struggle. Alnev described the song as dealing with “the denial of holding onto the best parts of a relationship when you already know it will not last.”
After a first verse that introduces something new “coming round the bend / descending from the ether” into the singer’s life, the staccato syllables “Oh my god” at the beginning of the chorus create a sense of nervous energy. Sung hesitatingly over a steady beat, this section captures a mingled sense of anxiety and enthusiasm, which gains confidence as the chorus progresses.

The song’s melody, particularly in the chorus, showcases Alnev’s vocal agility. A few key higher notes amid a mostly lower-pitched melody line embody the song’s core conflict between infatuation and hesitance. In the lyric “throwing caution to the wind,” Alnev delivers the word “caution” in a sudden near-whisper that ironically seems to represent the very caution he claims to be abandoning. Contradictions such as this bring a layer of increased depth to an already highly reflective and complex story.
The masterful blend of emotional vulnerability and catchy pop instrumentation in “a little more” appears throughout Alnev’s body of work, including in songs like “the Writer” and “ghost.” The singer’s newest single maintains his characteristic confessional, heartfelt lyricism and captures an all-too-common human experience of wanting something that is not meant to be.
