With roots in Port Chester and connections spanning from the Hudson Valley to Buffalo, Sons of Ghidorah has spent over a decade pushing the boundaries of heavy metal. Their most recent release Raining Fire finds the band embracing that independent spirit as they continue to explore new musical territory.

Sons of Ghidorah began in 2014 as a studio collaboration between Mark Giuliano, Christopher Konys, and Carl Pace, a Buffalo musician with roots in the 90s metal scene. What began as a recording project soon evolved into the band, releasing a self-titled debut, 379 Miles to Go, Hallowmas, and their most recent release Raining Fire.
Raining Fire features Giuliano on lead vocals, Konys on bass, guitars, keyboards, backing vocals, and drum production and arrangements, alongside lead guitarist Lou Barrese.

Sonically, Sons of Ghidorah transcends the boundaries of a single genre.
We’ve always been a little difficult to pigeonhole… We’ve never really sat down and decided we needed to sound a certain way or fit into a particular genre. We just play what we enjoy and see where it takes us.
– Mark Giuliano of Sons of Ghidorah
Sons of Ghidorah’s philosophy defines Raining Fire. The album echoes the sounds doom metal, stoner rock, and traditional heavy metal, with distorted guitar tones and heavy grooves. These sounds seamlessly blend with psychedelic textures and atmospheric passages, drawing influence from more progressive influences.
The title track opens the album and drops listeners in immediately without warning. “Raining Fire” is direct, heavy, and commands full attention.
The band’s genre defying sound is quickly established falling into the second track “Zuzu’s Petals.” Its languid opening riff slows the tempo without sacrificing weight. This track allows the band to pair their distorted intensity with more open melodic sections.
“Goodbye” and “Dogs of War” are other stand out tracks on Raining Fire. “Goodbye” is carefully complex, blending layered guitar and vocal harmonies together. “Dogs of War” showcases the band’s proficiency in heavy doom metal riffs paired with grungy vocal harmonies.
The soul of Raining Fire is fully realized in the final track. “Time” showcases Sons of Ghidorah’s masterful delivery of both the crushing heaviness of metal and expansive psychedelia.
