Turnstile took their Never Enough Tour Pt. 2 to Queen’s Forest Hills Stadium for a night of moshing, high energy, and inclusivity on Wednesday, September 23. Supported by julie and Clipse, the sold-out show brought an infectious energy to New York City.
Openers julie and Clipse kept the crowd energetic as the sun began to set. julie, a shoegaze-grunge punk band from California, performed the first opening set for early concertgoers. Even in daylight, eager fans opened the pit for a moshing warm-up. Clipse, the Grammy award-winning hip-hop supergroup composed of brothers Pusha T and Malice, supported second. The two performed a short set of their greatest hits, including “Grindin” and “Chinese New Year.” However, the majority of their set focused on their 2025 comeback album, Let God Sort Em Out.
Turnstile’s set began in total darkness with only the pre-recorded sound of birds chirping from afar. The track dissipated as Turnstile’s iconic colored stripe background lit up under the night sky. Silhouetted under the bright colors, members of the band ran in as Daniel Fang set up shop behind the drums. The crowd roared as Fang began the cowbell introduction to “BIRDS.”
As soon as guitarists Pat McCrory and Meg Mills brought the rhythm in, the mosh erupted. Frontman Brendan Yates jumped from the drum platform — arms up, legs out, and ready to begin Turnstile’s sold-out show. The entire GA floor shook in a rapid mosh, with fans already climbing each other’s shoulders to crowd surf to the band’s heavy hit.
After each song, Yates nodded and put his thumbs in the air to check on everyone’s safety closest to him. Transitioning to “Real Thing,” the frontman jumped the barricade to join the center mosh. As the impending crowd surfers inched closer, Yates grabbed their hands, sung with them, and helped them over the edge.
Queens welcomed a special guest for “I CARE/DULL.” Halfway through the song, Yates brought out Faye Webster to perform her verse from Turnstile’s 2026 NEVER ENOUGH: Versions. An extra level of excitement arose, especially from the women in the crowd, who are familiar with Webster’s discography – including her most recent release Underdressed at The Symphony (2024).
Throughout the show, bassist Franz Lyons consistently encouraged the crowd to open up a sizable pit to mosh in. Asking for continued energy from everyone present, even the camera operators waded around heavy movement areas. But getting up-close-and-personal was clearly worth it, as the large screen behind the hardcore punk band projected scenes of passionate concertgoers in nearly every song.
The crowd surfing never stopped, either. During “WILD WRLD,” “LIGHT DESIGN,” and “MYSTERY,” there was a never-ending flow of surfers arriving safely back in the general pit — only to throw themselves back into the chaos within seconds. The band brought us back to 2013 for a short series of Step to Rhythm hits – including “7,” “Keeping It Moving,” and “Canned Heat.”
Turnstile and their fanbase’s political awareness made a big impact that night. Booked in collaboration with the New York Immigrant Coalition, concertgoers were given informative pamphlets and encouraged to be politically and socially active on-site. From every ticket sold, $1 was given back to support their advocacy work for immigrant rights in NY State. Many fans brought Palestinian flags, wore “ICE OUT” pins and shirts, and openly represented their cultures on the big screen. The band preached love and community throughout their set, asking everyone to uplift their neighbors, take care of each other, and feel comfortable in the environment at a Turnstile show.
“HOLIDAY” kept the punk going, with everyone from floor to upper bowl head-banging to the beat. Another song backed with video footage directly from the crowd, even the camera operators were seen crowd surfing with their gear. Directly following, the opening seconds of “BLACKOUT” engulfed everyone in darkness. It felt like a simulation as white lights began circling around the entire stadium, casting the crowd in a seemingly never-ending strobe.
The night ended with fan-favorites “NEVER ENOUGH” and “T.L.C.” Washed under blue hues for “NEVER ENOUGH” fans roped their arms around their friends, jamming to the reflective tune and passing love between each other. “T.L.C.” encouraged one final mosh to end the night before Forest Hills’ 10 pm curfew.
