The Glens Falls Symphony Set to Host Annual Summer Pops Concert

The Glens Falls Symphony is set to host its annual Independence Day Summer Pops Concert on Friday, July 3, while celebrating its 25th year. The free, family-friendly event begins at 7:30 P.M. and promises an evening of patriotic music, fireworks, and community celebration.

The concert will take place at Crandall Park, located on Upper Glen Street in Glens Falls, next to the YMCA. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to claim their spots with blankets and chairs. Food and beverages will be available from local vendors, ensuring a festive atmosphere. Additionally, there will be the Glens Falls Arts District’s annual Youth Arts experience, its annual antique car show, vendors, treats, and bounce houses at Crandall Park, starting at 5 P.M. on the field.

Parking is available on surrounding streets, with handicapped parking available in the access road lot near the war memorial; however, a permit is required.

The event’s theme this year, “250 Years of American Sound”, marks a milestone for both the symphony and the region. This will feature a special performance of “Armed Forces Salute”, honoring local veterans and their families. Military personnel and their loved ones are invited to stand during the anthem of their branch of service, a tradition that underscores the symphony’s commitment to recognizing those who serve.

This year’s event will aim to include local elected officials in the celebration, including Glens Falls Mayor Diana Palmer, Retired New York State Senator Betty Little, State Senator Dan Stec, Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner, Assemblyman Matt Simpson, and Queensbury Town Supervisor John Strough.

The Warren County Commission for the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution will also be on hand, offering activities and information about upcoming commemorations.

For the first time, the symphony is expanding its program with Chorus250, a community choir open to singers of all levels, ages 14 and up. Penny Schiek will conduct this event, a retired Queensbury High School music teacher, and choral coordinator James Corriveau, a retired Warrensburg music teacher. The choir will perform alongside the professional orchestra, and interested singers can sign up to be part of this performance, with rehearsals scheduled for Tuesday, June 23, and Tuesday, June 30.

Both rehearsals will be held at Christ Church United Methodist, Glens Falls, at 7:00 P.M. A full-dress rehearsal is planned for Friday, July 3, at Glens Falls High School, with the call time to be announced.

Since Maestro Charles Peltz arrived in 2000, the Glens Falls Symphony has grown into a key part of the region’s arts and culture scene. As the smallest city in America to support a fully professional symphony orchestra, the ensemble is renowned for its repertoire, world-class guest artists, and programming that includes family concerts and summer pops performances.
