American indie-rock band Goose performed a double-header at the infamous Red Rocks Amphitheater August 27 and August 28. Thursday night the group played hours worth of tunes under a lunar eclipse sky ,making it a historical show for both the band and fans alike.

Goose is known for their genre-defying sound, adventurous live performances, and dedicated fan base. Comprised of Rick Mitarotonda (vocals, guitar), Peter Anspach (vocals, keys, guitar), Trevor Weekz (bass), & Cotter Ellis (drums), the band has grown from playing Connecticut basements to headlining some of the country’s most iconic stages.

This band has taken over the jam band scene in a storm, especially so for a lot of younger fans. The night before their Red Rocks return they had an intimate pop up at Boulder College. The group knows how to connect with fans and create show stopping improvisation.

For their first night on the Rocks they opened with a cover of “Eminence Front” from The Who. This tune had countless people in the crowd screaming and dancing. A top tier song and a top tier performance.

They followed up this breakout intro with their song “MEDIA” off their latest album BIG MODERN! This sixth studio album of theirs is the bands third full-length studio LP in just over a year. The album completes a prolific creative run that traces both the band’s musical growth and personal evolution. BIG MODERN! is rooted entirely in presence and finding balance in modern life. Goose builds this sound through improvisational prowess, high-energy grooves, searing guitar riffs and rich vocal harmonies.

Goose followed up by playing “Rockdale” and “Silver Rising.” The latter received a huge roaring applause from the intro sound alone.

After, the band took a short intermission which happened to be at the perfect time. The crowd from all different areas in the world got to take time to fully focus on the sky. People gazed at the beauty of watching a red moon over one of the most beautiful venues in the world. Everyone kept repeating how lucky we all were to get to experience this at that place.

As Goose began playing their second set the moon was nearly fully covered. It felt exceptionally magical to hear their song “Madhuvan” under that breathtaking sky over the weekend.

Goose finished off this once in a lifetime Red Rocks performance with another song off of BIG MODERN!: “POP.”

A truly jaw dropping night. From hours of jam from Goose to the red moon in the sky. Nothing could top that August night.
