New York and New Jersey indie rocker Jonny Couch has released “Overwhelmed.” The song comes before his upcoming album, Where The Sidewalk Ends, set for release on July 24. Where The Sidewalk Ends will be Couch’s first album since Mystery Man in 2019.
“Overwhelmed” has a bright power-pop sound, even though the lyrics focus on a relationship falling apart. The song moves quickly, with guitars and strong drums, which gives it a more upbeat feel than its story suggests.

Couch said the song was partly inspired by Fine Young Cannibals’ “Good Thing,” especially its fun and danceable energy. While “Overwhelmed” takes a different direction, it still keeps that same kind of bounce through the rhythm and guitar parts.
“Fantastically infectious lyrics and sleek synth melodies,” said Rebel Noise.
The single was recorded at Landline Recording in Hoboken, New Jersey, and produced, engineered, and mixed by Jon Chinn. The upcoming album also includes work from producers Peter Mavrogeorgis, Jonas Wilson, and Dan Haag.
Couch was previously known as a drummer in the NYC rock scene before stepping forward as a solo artist in 2016. His music draws on power pop, new wave, and rock, with influences from artists like Cheap Trick, The Pretenders, Elvis Costello, and The Cars. He has also shared stages with artists including The Fleshtones, Josie Cotton, The Nude Party, Paul Collins Beat, and The Plimsouls.
The album will also feature artwork by New York artist Anne Muntges.
Couch will celebrate the album release at Sleepwalk in Brooklyn on July 24, with additional shows planned in New Jersey, Georgia, New York, and the UK.
