New York City rock group, BODEGA, has released a new single, “Pick Up The Check,” on May 6, through Chrysalis Records. Alongside the single is a music video, directed by the quintet’s guitarist and vocalist, Ben Hozie.

We’re always gonna be thought of as a post-punk band, which is accurate, I guess,” said Hozie.
In particular, “Pick Up The Check” has a liberating vibe. The song leans into an alternative-rock style, with a take-charge energy that fits naturally with the band’s NYC background scene. It feels somewhat youthful, with a rebellious lyrical edge.
“I know too many friends who tolerate unfulfilling relationships (either romantic, platonic, artistic, or business) out of politeness or fear of letting others down. You don’t have to. The real danger of spending time w/ people who don’t inspire is how their way of being rubs off on your mind and personae. Strike the set, rewrite the draft, and pick up the (metaphorical) check,” said Hozie.

Additionally, the new single was recorded in Leeds, England, with producer Matt Peel, and then mixed in Brighton with producer and mix engineer Theo Verney. This marked the band’s first recording outside NYC.
BODEGA will have two live performances in NYC this 2026 summer. The band will be joining Spoon and Ratboys at the Central Park SummerStage on July 8. Following that, they’ll have a show at Elsewhere Rooftop in Brooklyn on August 19. After NYC, the crew will continue performing across the US and then internationally. They have tour dates in Spain, the Netherlands, the UK, France, and Canada.
