Phil Lesh to be Honored in March at All Star Capitol Theatre Tribute – Third Show Added

Despite the passing of legendary Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh, The Capitol Theatre will continue a time-honored tradition in marking Lesh’s birthday with an annual concert series this March, paying tribute with some of his closest Friends.

Taking place March 14, 15 and 16, and billed as Grahame Lesh & Friends, the celebration of what would have been Phil’s 85th birthday will carry on in Port Chester with an all-star cast of close friends and collaborators.

Hosted by Phil’s son, Grahame, the now-three-night event is also slated to feature Goose’s Rick Mitarotonda, who previously took part in Phil Lesh & Friends 2022 run at The Cap, in addition to a roster of frequent collaborators and active members of Lesh live experience, including Eric Krasno, Oteil Burbridge, Jason Crosby, John Molo and Jennifer Hartswick.

The venue shared in a statement as the concerts were announced, “Phil’s heartfelt wish was for his music to live on through his family, friends, fellow musicians, and fans. We look forward to gathering with you all to connect and celebrate in Phil’s honor.”

Night three will stay consistent with host band Grahame Lesh & Friends remaining at the helm. The newly added night of music will feature a fresh crop of featured guests, including Phil’s mid-2000s collaborators: Jackie Greene, Larry Campbell, Steve Molitz, John Molo and Teresa Williams–a near identical ensemble that performed together during Phil & Friend’s  Nov. 18, 2008 concert at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre, and other mid-aughts era gigs, like June 21, 2008 show at Bank of America Pavilion in Boston.

Crosby spoke to Relix recently, sharing “I remember him saying he wanted the Grateful Dead’s catalog to be like children’s stories, where they were physically passed down to the generations, not like in an email but more like, ‘Son, this is ‘Jack Straw,’ and here’s the story behind that song.’ That’s a beautiful thing. And he did that personally. That’s really how he viewed the music and what he hoped for it, and it is happening!”

Tickets for the Phil Lesh tribute go on sale Friday, Jan. 24, at 10 a.m.
