U.K. rock band Simple Minds has announced their biggest North American tour, making one stop in Wantagh at Jones Beach on June 13. The tour will be joined by supporting guests pop duo Soft Cell and punk band Modern English.

The long-awaited tour coincides with the band’s 40th anniversary, commemorating historic moments like their Billboard “Hot 100” song “Don’t you (Forget About Me),” RIAA Gold-certified studio album Once Upon A Time and their 135,000 fan performance at 1985’s Live Aid. To celebrate the milestone, the band has released an anniversary edition of their album, Once Upon A Time, now including “Don’t You (Forget About Me).” Simple Minds has also released their new single, “Your Name In Lights,” accompanied with an official music video released on Jan. 17 and featured in the BBC documentary, “Simple Minds: Everything Is Possible.” Prior to the tour, the band will perform “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Wednesday, Jan. 29.
Simple Minds singer Jim Kerr reflected on the past four decades and the band’s incredible journey. “We’ve been on one hell of a journey,” said Kerr. “I’m grateful for the career we’ve had, but I’m mad enough to think we can still hit new levels. This is what we do – write, record and play live. One of the things I’m most proud of is that people say to me, what Simple Minds are you talking about? The avant-garde, the art-rock, the pop, the ambient, the instrumental group, the political, the folk, the stadium band? To play all those different styles but at the same time be quintessentially Simple Minds is an amazing thing.”

Simple Minds is one of the most successful U.K. bands of all time, amassing over one billion global streams on Spotify and over 60 million worldwide sales. Childhood friends Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill have branded a unique, distinctive sound rooted in punk, art-rock and electronic music. The band remains a stagnant role model for upcoming generations, with continuous releases of experimental music whilst remaining true to their original sound.
Tickets to the general public for the upcoming Simple Minds tour will begin on Friday, Jan. 31 at 10 a.m. local time. For more information, visit simpleminds.com/tour.
