Following a decade long hiatus, Fraternal Twin return to the New York indie-rock scene with dreamy yet tumultuous new album, Halo Fell Forever, exploring feelings of loss, melancholy, and personal transformation.
Tom Christie, lead singer and frontman of Fraternal Twin, is joined by Marco Spodek (drums), Mariah Houston (guitar), and Forrest Philpot (bass). Halo Fell Forever is Christie’s first project since 2016.
During this decade long hiatus, Christie uprooted his life and moved from Kingston to New York City. This resulted in a period of intense uncertainty that ultimately led to immense personal growth. Halo Fell Forever represents this transformation, exploring difficulty alongside clarity.

Halo Fell Forever exists in the realm of grungy shoegaze-esque alternative rock that blends fuzzy distortion with Christie’s melodic dream-like vocals. Lyrically, the album is deeply introspective, exploring loneliness and confusion through poetic metaphor. Tracks like “Half Grown” and “Evil Eye” rise and fall musically as Christie sings of emotional distress.
The album’s fourth track “Medicine” offers a hazy, restless energy reminiscent of getting lost in your own thoughts. The track circles around the idea of trying to reconnect with a past version of yourself, pairing fuzzy guitar tones and drifting vocals with pounding drums and a bassline that keeps the song moving forward.
The feeling carries on in the video, which depicts Tom Christie wandering through a sun-soaked park. The grainy vintage-style footage is nostalgic yet unsettling, like someone trying to crawl their way out of a fog back towards something brighter.
There is a release to this tension in the songs “Lucidity” and “Metamorphosis.” These tracks offer a deceptively optimistic break in the album, emphasizing maturity and personal transformation in the face of turmoil.

After joining Ditch on their North American Tour this summer, Fraternal Twin will be celebrating the release of Halo Fell Forever by giving two performances in New York. The band will be performing September 10 at Tubby’s in Kingston, and September 11 at Union Pool in New York City.
