Ski Team’s new single “Islands”, is available everywhere on January 22nd. Ski Team is a Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter known for her luscious layered harmonies and bold instrumentation. She combines traditional folk and rock elements while also layering modern soundscapes, creating a unique sound.

Growing up in a musical family, Lucie Lozinski, also known as Ski Team, had access to a recording studio in her backyard and unique opportunities to perform, singing with icons like Tony Bennett and Queen Latifah and performing at the US Open Championship when she was only eight years old. Lozinski has silently been in the industry for years, but when she met producer Bobby Renz in San Francisco, she began focusing on her solo career. Lozinski has said her lyrics often reflect vulnerability within her relationships and being stuck somewhere-in a rut with a friend, with a boyfriend repeating the same fights, or in a city that all of her friends have left.
Lozinski’s early music career consisted of intimate demos recorded in her apartment and transformed into full-blown pop. Her song “Me” is an experimental downtempo indie pop track. She teamed up with producer Daniel Knowles, who has worked with Sharon Van Etten, Caroline Polachek, Cigarettes After Sex, Phoebe Bridgers, and more renowned artists. She also brought in her brother Ian Lozinski and saxophone player Matt Podell, whom she met on hinge after the two decided to create music together instead of date.
“The song is about the struggle of adjusting someone’s role in your life, or your own role to them, and giving up control in that process…it’s about realizing if you have to assign roles and challenging this idea of roles being the whole of someone’s identity.”

Lozinski’s upcoming single was written as a counterpart to “Me.” Her new song “Islands” is a gentle hymn filled with her signature layered harmonies and loops, made to counter the full-blown pop aspect of “Me,” and is largely improvised.
“I think that improvised spirit of listening and just doing what feels right—whatever comes out—is what makes this song so special. There was very little planning and designing it. I just sang a song from the soul into the mic, and you can feel that.”
Lucie Lozinski
Her new single is nothing short of angelic and ethereal. The song itself is very light and liminal with only the sound of the ocean in the background, but her lush and tender vocals combined with the soft melody of the hymn enchants a heavenly feeling on to the listener.
