The Glens Falls Symphony proudly welcomes three new musicians to join their professional ensemble for the 2026-27 season. These appointments come just ahead of the symphony’s “Rev Up!” season which starts on October 4 and will feature an ambitious repertoire.
The first new hire is already quite familiar with the Glens Falls Symphony. Violinist Olev Viro received a promotion from regular substitute to a titled chair. With over fifty years of professional experience, Olev has been captivating audiences both as a performer and a conductor. He has spent a great deal of time working with symphony orchestras across Ohio and New York, including the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and the New Albany Symphony. Olev received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Harpur College at Binghamton and his Master of Music degree in Violin Performance, Chamber Music, and Conducting from New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. He also studied Chamber Music while conducting at Syracuse University.
The brass section receives a new member, adding William Roberts as Principal Trombone. William is currently completing his M.M. and M.M.A. at the Yale School of Music and has previously performed with various symphony orchestras in the south such as the Tallahassee Symphony and the Sinfonia Gulf Coast. At Yale, William also performs with the New Horizon Brass group and Yale Trombone Quartet. Under the tutelage of Peter Oundijion, Timothy Myers, and Alexander Jimenez, William’s expertise developed spectacularly and landed him a spot as a finalist in this year’s Francis Walton Chamber Competition and MTNA Chamber competition in Brass Quintet.
Lastly, the Symphony welcomes back Jameson Platte who will serve as Principal Cello. Throughout his career, he has spent time as a concert cellist, educator, pianist/composer, and a pedagogue. Jameson is currently involved in various groups across the tri-state area including the Omega Trio, Garden State Philharmonic, and the critically acclaimed Duo 92 with pianist/composer Matthew Quayle. Additionally, Jameson is a cello and chamber music teacher at Skidmore College. He has performed at renowned New York venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. On top of his involvement in his groups and at Skidmore, Jameson has performed in recitals across the world. Prior to his current appointment, Jameson held the role of Principal Cellist with the Glens Falls Symphony. His previous experiences make him a strong leader for the cello section.
Since Music Director Charles Peltz’s arrival in 2000, the Glens Falls Symphony has been playing incredibly sophisticated pieces for their audience, regularly welcoming guest artists and musicians from all across the Northeast. The ensemble has an exciting season lined up and will undoubtedly be enhanced by the presence of these three promising appointments.
