Action Bronson brought Planet Frog to Mulcahy’s on Long Island Saturday night, mixing tracks from the project with fan favorites from throughout his career.

Backed by his live band, Human Growth Hormone, Bronson took the stage as colorful Planet Frog visuals filled the screen behind him. The live instrumentation gave the performance a different feel from a traditional hip-hop show, with guitar, bass, keyboards and saxophone adding another layer to Bronson’s catalog.

While Planet Frog was featured heavily throughout the night, Bronson reached back for plenty of older material as well. The set included fan favorites such as “Dmitri,” “Latin Grammys,” “Terry,” “Prince Charming” and “Splash,” giving the Long Island crowd a mix of newer music and songs spanning his career.

Human Growth Hormone was an important part of the performance rather than simply serving as a backing band. The musicians were given room to stretch out throughout the night, while Bronson moved around the stage and interacted with the band and the crowd.

The intimate setup at Mulcahy’s put fans just feet from the stage, making the show feel especially suited to Bronson’s loose and unpredictable performance style. Between the live instrumentation, Planet Frog visuals and older favorites, the set showed how Bronson has continued to expand his live show while keeping plenty of his longtime material in the mix.

Fans will have another chance to catch Bronson and Human Growth Hormone when they return to Le Poisson Rouge in New York City on Tuesday, September 22. Doors open at 7 p.m., with the show scheduled for 8 p.m.
