Wednesday Delivers Unforgettable Show at Basilica Hudson 

On July 22, alt-country band Wednesday brought their summer tour to Basilica Hudson, where an enthusiastic crowd matched the band’s intensity from beginning to end. Just days before their appearance at the Newport Folk Festival, Wednesday delivered a blistering set packed with fan favorites and selections from their latest album, Bleeds.

Located along the Hudson River waterfront, Basilica Hudson has become one of the region’s most unique destinations for live music and the arts. Housed inside a restored 19th-century industrial factory, the venue retains much of its original character with exposed brick walls, towering steel beams, and an expansive open floor that creates an atmosphere unlike other traditional concert halls. The venue was co-founded by musician Melissa Auf der Maur, best known for her work as bassist with Hole and The Smashing Pumpkins, alongside filmmaker Tony Stone.

Shortly after 9 p.m., Wednesday took the stage to a roaring welcome from the crowd. Opening with “Reality TV Argument Bleeds,” the lead track from Bleeds. Beginning with a restrained, slow-building introduction before erupting into a wall of sound, the song served as the perfect opener, steadily building anticipation before unleashing the band’s signature sound. Wednesday continued with several more cuts from Bleeds, including “Phish Pepsi” and “Pick Up That Knife,” while also reaching back into earlier releases with favorites like “Hot Rotten Grass Smell” and “Got Shocked.”

At the center of Wednesday’s captivating performance was vocalist Karly Hartzman. One moment, Hartzman delivers lyrics with an understated tenderness that draws the audience closer; the next, she unleashes visceral screams that slice through the band’s towering sound with remarkable intensity. That balance between vulnerability and controlled chaos has become one of Wednesday’s defining qualities, and witnessing it live gave the songs an even greater emotional weight.

Perhaps the most memorable aspect of the evening wasn’t a particular song or solo, but the undeniable connection between the band and its audience. Nearly every chorus became a communal experience, with hundreds of voices singing back to Hartzman as though each lyric belonged to everyone in the room. It was the kind of response that can’t be manufactured—it grows from years of honest songwriting, unforgettable performances, and the bond Wednesday has built with its devoted fans.
