Behind The Lines: A 9/11 Story held previews at the Sheen Center in NYC on May 11 and 12 in final preparation for an upcoming tour of 30 cities across the U.S. in the Fall of 2026.
Behind The Lines: A 9/11 Story is a departure from previous productions chronicling the events and aftermath of 9/11. It is a theatrical sojourn that features fireman Bill Spade, sole 9/11 survivor of FDNY Company 5, and Army combat veteran Jaymes Poling.
Spade, who along with his FDNY members is heralded with saving countless lives at the twin towers, imparts the turmoil he endured during and after that tragic day, while Poling, so affected by 9/11, lays bare the impact of his decision to join the Army in response to the aftermath.
The backdrop of this show is a stage sparse in appearance with a canvas draped in camouflage. Austere graphics and lighting allow for the raw emotion of the principals to be absorbed by the audience unencumbered.
Behind The Lines: A 9/11 Story surpasses spoken word. A musical tapestry, created by jazz trumpeter Domenick Farinacci, helps to underscore the anguish and despair conveyed by the protagonists. Interspersed through the evening, vocalist Akua Allrich delivers evocative interpretations of songs providing pathways that dovetail the two narratives.
Behind The Lines: A 9/11 Story is created by Dominick Farinacci i & Jaymes Poling, directed by Emmet Murphy, lighting design by Garrett Caine, and is produced by Dominick Farinacci. 2026 marks the 25th anniversary of 9/11. The juxtaposition of these two individuals’ experiences guided by a musical vessel makes this an unparalleled show. It is a story of one who survived, and one who chose to avenge.
