Ice-T Celebrates Hip-Hop Legacy and the Future at LPR with DJ Evil E and Friends

Hip-hop icon Ice-T brought old-school energy, surprise guests, and new music to Le Poisson Rouge on Thursday night alongside longtime collaborator DJ Evil E for a packed performance that doubled as a birthday celebration for hip-hop pioneer Grandmaster Melle Mel.

The intimate Manhattan venue quickly turned into a classic hip-hop party as Ice-T moved through decades of material while DJ Evil E kept the energy high behind the turntables. The night blended nostalgia with new material, proving Ice-T is still actively creating instead of simply revisiting the past.

Two unreleased songs, “No Competition” and “What You Say,” gave fans an early preview of Ice-T’s upcoming album Criminal Migraine. Both tracks fit naturally into the set, carrying the aggressive streetwise delivery and sharp attitude that helped define his career. The crowd reacted immediately, showing the new material can still stand alongside the classics.

One of the biggest moments of the night came when Grandmaster Melle Mel joined Ice-T onstage for a performance of “The Message,” turning the birthday celebration into a true hip-hop history lesson. The crowd erupted as the legendary MC delivered the timeless verses that helped shape conscious rap.

Another surprise appearance came from Treach of Naughty by Nature, who hit the stage for a performance of “O.P.P.” The unexpected guest spot pushed the room into full party mode and added another layer of classic hip-hop energy to the evening.

The audience also included several respected names from hip-hop history, including Eric B., Busy Bee Starski, and Peter Gunz, making the night feel more like a family reunion of rap legends than a standard concert.

Ice-T’s performance balanced commanding stage presence with genuine appreciation for the culture and artists around him. Whether performing classics like “Gangsta Rap” and “New Jack Hustler” or introducing brand-new songs, he never looked like an artist living in the past. Instead, the show felt like a reminder that Ice-T remains deeply connected to both hip-hop’s foundation and its future.
