Heading to the Capitol Theatre for Widespread Panic this weekend? Have you ever wanted to see vintage early 1990s Northeast jam band fans getting down to the southern jam rock legends early in their career?
Well you’re in luck, as video has surfaced of Athens, Georgia’s favorite sons, Widespread Panic, playing Arrowhead Ranch, located in Sullivan County near the town of Liberty in August of 1991.

Having played a few shows in NYC at the likes of The Ritz and Wetlands Preserve, in Port Chester at the Capitol Theatre, and even Ithaca, Poughkeepsie and Westhampton, Panic made their way into the Northeast via Blues Traveler, who were then just two or so years away from breaking out with Four.
The show itself is standard for WSP at the time, but the crowd is a show to watch all in itself.
“Pickin Up the Pieces,” then brand-new, was played for only the sixth time, while many songs performed at this opening slot were off Mom’s Kitchen, the band’s 1991 release named for a popular Athens, GA restaurant. The show notably features part of the brief tenure keyboardist T. Lavitz had with the band, prior to leaving in 1992.
