Phish has announced a four-night run of shows over the New Year at Madison Square Garden, culminating with the Vermont band’s 100th performance at the venue. In celebration of this major milestone, the band shared a video announcement, honoring the hardworking employees of MSG who have experienced Phish and their fans over the past 32 years of performances.
Phish played their first-ever Madison Square Garden show on Dec. 30, 1994. Since then, the venue has hosted the group for a diverse and exciting range of performances, including a total of 17 New Year’s Eve celebrations. Their history with MSG also includes “The Baker’s Dozen,” a 13-show run in 2017 during which the band performed 237 different songs without repeating any.
Throughout the past 32 years of Phish at Madison Square Garden, the MSG staff were there to ensure each show unfolded smoothly. A tribute video, jointly published to YouTube by Phish and Madison Square Garden, features reflections from many of the employees who make events like this year’s New Year’s concert series possible.
Phish’s upcoming New Year’s shows at the Garden will take place beginning on Dec. 30, the 32nd anniversary of their first MSG show. The four-show run will conclude with their monumental 100th performance on Jan. 2.
This past summer, “Phish in 5” had the band playing five shows – their 92nd, 93rd, 94th, 95th and 96th at The Garden, all theme to correspond with the band’s music rotation in the corresponding years. The 100th show on January 2 puts Phish second all time in shows played at MSG, behind Billy Joel, who holds steady at 150 shows.
Tickets will go on sale for the general public at noon on Friday, Oct. 16. More information is available on the band’s website.
