Prospect Park is preparing for a beautiful summer series for August, with live music, roller skating, and more. The LeFrak Center at Lakeside will be hosting these outdoor activities, promoting recreational activities and community.
The LeFrak Center first opened to the public in 2013 within Prospect Park, quickly becoming a popular activity hub and music venue. It functions all year-round, turning into an ice rink in the winter months and lake activities in the summer. It has been a recipient of design awards, including an Honor Award from the American Institute of Architects.
August will see multiple live music performances every Friday. Kicking off on August 7, The Happy Fits are bringing a unique blend of indie rock and an electric cello. They will be joined by special guests Special Gin and Hojean. Tickets are available for purchase here.
The roller-skating festivities continue on August 14 with “Glide & Groove.” Tragedy, a tribute band, will put a heavy metal twist on hits from the Bee Gees, ABBA, Bonnie Tyler, and more. British rock band The Wankers will also perform, culminating in a night full of headbangers. Tickets are available for purchase here.
August 21 has a trio of bands in its lineup, each one bringing a unique blend of pop and classic rock. Daisy The Great and Emerson Woolf & The Wishbones will open the “Glide & Groove” session. The night is headlined by Jukebox The Ghost, a piano-driven rock band that has performed over 1,000 shows. Tickets are available for purchase here.
LSD Clownsystem are described as “America’s premier clown-themed LCD Soundsystem cover band.” Along with DJ Amber Valentine, they will bring a whirlwind of musicians, DJs, costume designers, makeup artists, and clowns to the LeFrak center on August 21. Tickets are available for purchase here.
New Jersey rock band Phoneboy will provide the soundtrack to an upbeat rollerskating session for another “Glide & Groove” event. Boys Go To Jupiter and Shallow Alcove will also perform on August 28. Tickets are available for purchase here.
Ticket holders to all four events will have access to roller skating included in their ticket. VIP ticketholders will also include roller-skating along with seating and access to a private bar.
Throughout the summer, other activities will be happening at the center. The roller skating park will be open to “skaterobics,” adult coffee club, and roller skating classes. The lake at the park is open to the public for kayaking and boating. For all ages, a splash pad is open to cool off on hot days and later turns into a colorful water show at nighttime. Pickleball courts are also available to rent throughout the week.
