On Monday, August 3, 5 Seconds of Summer brought their ‘EVERYONE’S A STAR” World Tour to Darien Lake Performing Arts Center, where a crowd decked out in stars, chains, and glitter arrived more than ready to embrace the night’s theme and become stars themselves.

Starting the night was alternative pop singer Haiden Henderson, based in Los Angeles. He came out more than ready to give the crowd a show. From covering ‘Kiwi’ by Harry Styles to his on-stage chemistry with stellar guitarist Bella Parron, fans were on edge.

Right before closing his set out with ‘hell of a good time’, he shared how much 5 Seconds of Summer inspired him as an artist and how he learned to play guitar from their videos.

Next, The Band CAMINO, an alternative pop group out of Memphis, Tennessee, took the stage. Jeffery Jordan joked to the crowd that they “had 45 minutes to convince” the audience to like their music. From the reaction to songs like ‘Holly’ and ‘What I Want,’ it’s easy to say they earned some new fans in the Darien crowd.

The anticipation for 5 Seconds of Summer to enter the stage grew as each minute passed. The pit was full, with plenty of fans preemptively recording to get the exact moment the opening video played. Before everyone knew it, the notes to ‘NOT OK’ rang through the amphitheater.

The show ran on 6 acts: The Peak, The Fall, The Yearning, The Breakup, The Rise, The Beginning. Each focused on different periods of time their characters went through and correlated signs to each act.

Fans were treated to songs spanning the band’s career, solo songs, and a surprise song. From classic hits like ‘She’s Kinda Hot ’ or the deep-cut surprise song ‘Start Over,’ fans did nothing short of sing, dance, and jump through song after song.

A section of their set was dedicated to “ become one with the crowd,” which included

Also presented was The Boyband Awards, a bit in the set where 5SOS wins boyband of the year. Darien Lake was the 55th time they have celebrated the win on this tour.

One of the most anticipated songs of the night was a part of Act VI: The Beginning. ‘English Love Affair’ amped up the night even further than before. This song rolled into more classics like ‘Jet Black Heart’ and ‘She Looks So Perfect.’

Just when everyone thought the night was over and the lights went off, a roar spread across the crowd for an encore. Luke, Ashton, Calum, and Michael came back out ready to close out the night with two of their biggest singles, ‘Everyone’s a Star!’ and ‘Youngblood.’
