On August 3rd, the Philadelphia punk rock band, Mannequin Pussy took the stage at Electric City in Buffalo. The band had come by a little less than a year prior while on tour with Turnstile but today they are headlining this tight venue.

The sold out show drew in a litany of punk kids and alternative music fans to downtown Buffalo. For a punk band that sticks true to their rock genre, their opener Lip Critic muddied the waters a bit. Hailing from NYC, this quartet of cyberpunk weirdos played provocative, existentially harrowing music for the modern day.

When Mannequin Pussy finally took the stage, they came out to NLE Choppa’s “SLUT ME OUT.” The track perfectly exaggerates the tongue in cheek sexual bravado the band encapsulates. Frontwoman Marisa Dabice would playfully and authoritatively strut across the stage, commanding the room with her mix of lovely singing and (no pun intended) loud barks.

The band’s setlist hopped between all of their work but the crowd grew ecstatic for tracks from their 2023 LP, “I’ve Got Heaven” whose title track opened up the night. The crowd who were patiently waiting, packed like sardines into the space, came alive to make the floor shake for every song.

The band closed the night with their biggest anthem, “Loud Bark,” ending the evening with a bang. The band continues touring on August 6th but will return to New York in September, performing at CBGB Fest on the 26th. Make sure to check them out as Summer begins to say goodbye.
