Bar Italia fans dance in the rain at The Ruins

With rock music this good, not even torrential rain can cause it to halt. Around the corner of Knockdown Center in Queens, lies the Ruins. An old Glass Factory that has been revamped to act as a culture venue and art house. This past Thursday, July 30, fans of British-rock band Bar Italia gathered together amidst the treetops, down-pour and broken brick.

Bar Italia has been around since late 2019, but after the release of Some Like It Hot back in 2025, they have been making their rounds worldwide. The group consists of Nina Cristante (vocals), Sam Fenton (vocals, guitar), and Jezmi Tarik Fehmi (vocals, guitar). Their music is uneasy, catchy and captivating all at once. It’s something that calls for numerous plays, a chance to truly hear every layered vocal, synth and guitar chord. Post-punk elevated in an entirely new way.

Leaning into a sense of mystery with the addition of pulsing lights and engineered fog, Bar Italia began their set with a bang. They performed a slew of fan favorites including contender for top track of the year, “Cowbella.” Midway, the pit became a whirlwind. Umbrellas tossed aside as a mosh was formed. Fans climbed atop each other’s shoulders in order to get a better view, winding out of the way as others crowd-surfed towards the stage edge. The crowd became a blur, bodies drenched from rain and sweat. Shortly after, Bar Italia launched into “Nurse!” causing audience members to belt out lyrics alongside the band.
