10 high school students across Long Island were awarded music scholarships, thanks to the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame (LIMEHOF). The scholarships recognizes students who demonstrate career interest in music and the performing arts.
Each recipient received $1,000 towards their college education. Most will continue their musical journey through programs specializing in music or performing arts. Others will use the scholarship for their college studies, earning their degree in Music and Music Education.
In addition, the Pat DeRosa Memorial Scholarship awarded $500 to one student. They will be using the scholarship to continue their studies in music education. The name of the scholarship comes from Huntington native and “Oldest Saxophone Player” Pat A. DeRosa, an inductee of LIMEHOF.

In order for students to receive the scholarship, they must apply online and show interest or experience in music. Vice Chairman for LIMEHOF, Tom Needham, says that this year saw the highest number of applicants they ever received.
“The record number of scholarship applications we received this year is an encouraging sign for the future of the arts,” Needham said. “We are proud to provide thousands of dollars in scholarship support to outstanding students pursuing careers in music performance, music education, and theater.”
This year’s recipients ranged in musical talent. Some engaged in vocal performance, playing the drums, or brass instruments. One student plays one of the hardest instruments, the oboe. Regardless, every student possesses the talent to have a successful musical career.
