Dance punk band Cellmate will release its new single “1MP0573R!” (Imposter) on Friday, June 12, a song that blends electronic production with introspective songwriting and the group’s signature high-energy edge.

The Kingston-based band draws inspiration from the energy of garage rock, the freedom of electronic music and the attitude of punk to inform their unique sound. The fusion creates a basis for music that is both danceable and emotionally charged.
“1MP0573R!” lends itself definitively to the punk elements within the group’s sound. High-energy guitar and electronic texture combine with vocals that range from edgy to chaotic throughout the track. Cellmate recorded the song at the Applehead Recording studio in Woodstock with Chris Bittner. His credits include Coheed and Cambria, Bad Brains, Team Sleep and more. It was mixed by Alan Day of the pop punk band Four Year Strong and mastered by Jay Maas. It is the first Cellmate recording to feature members Jacob Kolbinski on guitar and Chris Gartmann on drums.
“1MP0573R! showcases a heavier, more aggressive side to our band while not straying far from familiar territory on previous releases,” said bassist Steve Markota. “We are enjoying the process of carving out our sound one song at a time. Nothing feels off limits and that’s what makes this band so exciting for us.”

The single follows two 2024 releases, “Fixer” and “Stuck,” which the group put out in March and July of the year respectively. “1MP0573R!” is the first of a string of songs that Cellmate plans to release throughout the rest of the year.
