The King is Back: Listening Experience of Elvis Presley in Concert

Over the past couple years, music listeners have been reaching for more tactile forms of media. Think unique vinyls, CDs and old Walkmans. There’s something special about honoring a full length album, taking note of the curated selection and how each track blends into one another. On Wednesday, May 6, longtime Elvis fans gathered at Brooklyn’s Public Records for a special listening party of Baz Luhrmann’s EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert

Following the release of the Elvis Presley Biopic in 2022, Academy-Award nominated Baz Luhrmann put together a new cinematic experience. EPiC highlights long-lost footage only recently rediscovered, paired with a rich, robust soundtrack. The album includes a new experimental mix, live audience reactions and creative blends. It’s an homage to how “The King of Rock n Roll’s” music could sound in today’s day and age.

The night began with a DJ Set as attendees slowly trickled into the venue. Listeners were invited to grab a curated cocktail at the bar or settle onto the cream, leather couches. Everyone was decked out in their favorite Presley shirts and leather jackets. Conversation rose as fans discussed visiting Graceland, top songs and the recent sound-track.

Around 8pm, the full play-back of the album began. Starting with “Can’t Help Falling In Love” that faded into a brief introduction of what’s to come throughout the night. Public Records is known for its hi-fi sound, with a deluxe speaker system that creates a full immersive experience. It truly was an experience like no other. The crisp sound quality picked up every dip and rise of the vocals and instrumentals. Paired with fans cheering, it mimicked the feeling of being at a live concert. The night ended with a few merch giveaways and concluding DJ set.
