Founded in 2009, The Brooklyn Folk Festival is an annual event that celebrates down-home music, cultural diversity, and memory. The event will enter its 17th year celebrating folk music and culture. The event brings more than just music; it also includes workshops, film screenings, content, and jam sessions.

This year has a stacked lineup featuring over 40 bands, including local artists from New York and international artists from around the world. Headlining the event this year is folk artist Bonnie “Prince” Billy. Some other major artists at the festival include Louis Cato, The Deslondes, Lonnie Holley, Michael Daves, and more.

“I wanted to present a really counter-cultural folk festival – folk music being a cornerstone of American counter culture – and a festival that really represented the huge diversity and deep roots inherent in the idea of folk music. We have made that our goal at the Brooklyn Folk Festival,”

Brooklyn Folk Festival Founder and Producer, Eli Smith

Beyond music, the Brooklyn Folk Festival features workshops where festival-goers can learn about various topics, such as the African Origins of the Banjo and Songs of the Delmore Brothers. The festival will also feature various activities, such as the legendary Gowanus Canal Banjo Toss Contest, Community Through Music with Suzi Shelton, Free Dirt Presents: Starvation Army Sing in Solidarity, and more.
