The Capitol Theater welcomed The Black Keys for a nearly sold-out stop on their Peaches n’ Kream tour this past Thursday, May 7.
The blues-rock duo of Patrick Carney and Dan Auerbach recently released their 14th studio album, Peaches!, a full-length collection of classic blues covers and their second cover album to date. In support of the release, the band has embarked on an extensive world tour that is set to continue throughout the summer.
Opening Thursday’s show was Miles Kane. Best known for co-fronting The Last Shadow Puppets alongside Arctic Monkeys singer Alex Turner, Kane has since been focused on a successful solo career that has earned widespread acclaim of its own. Backed by a straightforward three-piece band, his set largely focused on his latest album, Sunlight In The Shadows, which was co-written and produced by Dan Auerbach.

The Black Keys took the stage shortly after 9 p.m. to an enthusiastic welcome from the nearly sold-out crowd, immediately launching into “Heavy Soul,” a track from the band’s debut album. They quickly followed with “Gold on the Ceiling,” the breakout single from their 2011 album El Camino.
Seeing The Black Keys live makes it clear why the band has remained a force in rock music for more than two decades. Their live sound stays remarkably faithful to the studio recordings while still feeling energetic. Although originally known as a duo, the group now tours as a seven-piece ensemble, creating a wall of sound that breathes new life into the older material.

For the encore, The Black Keys returned with “Little Black Submarines” and the crowd-favorite “Lonely Boy,” closing the night on a high note. The Peaches n’ Kream Tour continues across the United States, including back-to-back performances at Brooklyn Paramount on May 11 and 12.
