Brooklyn-based alt-rock band Myra Lee step into a new era, ushering in a fresh wave of indie sound. The band have released their lead single “Magpie,” out April 3, with their debut LP Capture The Flag set to follow on June 26.

Comprised of lead singer and guitarist Tahlia Amanson, Aiden Velazquez on bass, and McCabe Teems on drums, the trio offer a glimpse of what’s to come, using “Magpie” to explore intimate yet profound themes. The lead singer’s ethereal vocals shape a sound that feels both distinct and firmly rooted in the indie landscape.
The band draws inspiration from ‘90s indie acts like Yo La Tengo, Pavement, Electrelane, and Sonic Youth. The eerie nature of the band’s sound feels like a tribute to nostalgia, one that lingers in the background. “Magpie” unfolds within the world of girlhood, where the hardships of childhood disrupt the delicate beauty of growing up.

The video follows two young girls running wild, hand in hand in fairy costumes, capturing girlhood as both a bond and an experience, a fleeting moment where, despite hardship, freedom and whimsy remain. Girlhood offers a choice that adult baggage does not, a choice to exist without the weight of consequence.
Childhood handshakes become more than a game, but a silent bond that speaks louder than words. Amanson reflects on the song’s personal roots, sharing, “I can only remember one time when I met my Aunt Maggie. Out of fear from my father’s past, he kept my sisters and me separated from his family.”
Tracked live over two days in a Lower East Side basement with engineer Jeremy Harris and later mixed and mastered by Calvin Lauber in Memphis, the album emerges as an intimate yet layered collection grappling with themes of alcoholism, sexuality, and grief.
