Vaclav Havel Center to Honor Joan Baez with Lifetime Achievement Award

The Vaclav Havel Center will honor distinguished folk singer, activist, and human rights advocate Joan Baez with the Lifetime Achievement Award at its annual Gala on September 25 at the Bohemian National Hall.

Singer and activist Joan Baez will be awarded with the Vaclav Havel Center Lifetime Achievement Award.

In this year’s “Truth Prevails” Gala theme, Joan Baez’s Lifetime Achievement Award will recognize her longtime efforts to promote nonviolence, human rights, and artistic courage, efforts she has long pursued for decades. From the civil rights and antiwar movements of the 1960s to her lifelong advocacy for political prisoners and marginalized communities across the world, Baez has stood firm in her pursuit of justice. Her landmark recordings with Vanguard Records defined the sound of an era, and her legacy continues to inspire generations.

Founded in 2012 by Madeleine Albright, Laura Bush, and Dagmar Havlová, the Vaclav Havel Center in New York is dedicated to promoting the ideals of Václav Havel, a dissident playwright who later became President of Czechoslovakia, to promote democratic freedoms, universal human rights, and the transformative power of the arts.

The Gala will take place at the Bohemian National Hall and will begin with welcome cocktails at 5:30 p.m., with dinner and awards to follow at 7 p.m. Information and tickets can be found here.
