A new era is beginning at Albany’s Capital Repertory Theatre as Miriam Weisfeld steps into the role of Producing Artistic Director, effective September 1.

Weisfeld will take over the role from Maggie Mancinelli-Cahill, who has served as Artistic Director since 1995, guiding the theater’s growth and success for nearly three decades. Weisfeld will remain in her current position as Consulting Artistic Producer for the remainder of the 2024-2025 season. Furthermore, she will work closely with Mancinelli-Cahill until the end of 2025 to gain the necessary insight and experience.
Weisfeld herself expressed excitement about the opportunity. “It’s an honor to follow in Maggie’s footsteps and work with the incredible team at Proctors Collaborative,” she noted. “Collaboration is key in this moment for American theater, and I’m excited to deepen theREP’s connections with artists and communities across the region.”
Throughout her career, Weisfeld has played a pivotal role in bringing cutting edge theater to audiences. As Director of Artistic Development at Children’s Theatre Company, she supported new works that gained national recognition. Additionally, she contributed to the early development of The Outsiders, which won the 2024 Tony Award for Best Musical.
Weisfeld’s leadership at both theREP and Adirondack Theatre Festival signals a deepening collaboration between the two institutions. Having guided ATF since 2021, she brings her experience in developing new works and fostering artistic partnerships. This approach closely aligns with theREP’s mission.
At theREP, Weisfeld will lead the artistic direction for the season, collaborating with designers, directors, and technical teams. She will also oversee key programs like the Next Act New Play Festival, ensuring theREP continues to nurture emerging voices in theater.
Miriam Weisfeld’s appointment marks a promising new chapter for theREP. It will bring fresh leadership and a commitment to collaboration that will continue to shape the theater’s future. Her blend of experience and vision will undoubtedly elevate the theater’s impact in the Capital Region and beyond.
