The shortest month of the year is stocked top to bottom with great live music options in Rochester. Less days just means we’ll have to get out there supporting the scene more often right? Here are five shows in Rochester at the top of our list for February.
February 7: Victor Wooten, Bob Franceschini and Tommy Igoe at Hilton High School
Let’s get things started with a little jazz fundraiser put on by the Hilton High School music department, where they welcome back one of the greatest bass players to ever live, Victor Wooten, along with saxophonist Bob Franceschini and drummer Tommy Igoe. You’ll not only get to see seasoned talent but also some of the next generation, as the headliners will also mix in with performances from the school groups. Should be a great night supporting a great cause.
Tickets are $25 and the show gets started at 7pm.
February 11: Ric Robertson, Ruben Moreno, Brandon Moreau @ South Wedge Mission

Three guys who have never played together are coming together for a unique show in a unique space and you should be there to see what happens because no one quite knows until it does. The band will consist of Ric Robertson, a singer/songwriter from North Carolina, Ruben Moreno a zydeco accordionist from Houston and Brandon Moreau a cajun fiddler from Louisiana. Come watch as the magic unfolds.
Tickets are $20/$25dos and the doors will open at 7pm with the music starting at 7:30pm.
February 12: The Bad Plus @ The Little Theater
Modern jazz pioneers The Bad Plus return to the Little Theater with their newest lineup behind their first album as a quartet, Complex Emotions, which was released late last year. Chris Speed and Ben Monder add a whole new edge to the classic Bad Plus sound and Rochester gets a front row seat to witness it evolve into it’s own fresh new beast.
Tickets are $40 and the show gets started at 8pm.
February 21: Minka at LUX
LUX on a Friday night is a tinderbox just waiting to explode, and on this night Minka comes from Philadelphia to take the stage and light the fuse. This one is going to be an instant and raucous dance party guaranteed so come prepared. Catatac will warm up the stage with their own dance-ready grooves.
Tickets are $5 and music will get started around 11pm.
February 21 & 22: Folky Tonk and Honky Tonk at Photo City Music Hall

The folks who bring you summers at the G Lodge are turning up the heat on winter with a little G Lodge preview hootenanny at Photo City Music Hall. There’s so much hootin’ and hollerin’ they had to extend it over two nights so saddle up and get your chaps down to the olde watering hole for some good old fashioned knee slapping and boot stomping. Jatoba, Head to the Roots, Tyler Westcott, a John Prine tribute, Janet Batch, Dirt Turtles, and Texas Headphones are just scratching the surface of this stacked lineup.
Friday’s doors open at 4:30pm and Saturday’s at 3pm with music starting shortly after. Tickets for each night are $60 with a $90 weekend pass option available.
