The Orchestra Now Announces Performances in Notable New York Venues and Debuts International Location in 2025 Season

The Orchestra Now (TŌN) has announced their 2025 winter/spring season, including performances located in Manhattan, Upstate New York and Germany. The graduate program from Bard College celebrates its 10th anniversary of TŌN this season.

TŌN is a graduate program of Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY. The program offers full-tuition fellowships for young students to pursue music on a professional level. Similar to this season, the orchestra regularly performs in notable venues within New York and, for the first time starting this year, internationally. 

February

TŌN will begin their season on Feb. 8 with “Transcription as Translation: A Carnegie Hall Preview Concert” at the Sosnoff Theater at the Fisher Center at Bard College. The performance will be conducted by Leon Botstein and will include pieces by master composers Balakirev, Smetana and Beethoven. The preview concert performances will begin on Feb. 8, 2025 at 7 p.m. and on Feb. 9, 2025 at 2 p.m. The orchestra will visit Carnegie Hall in Manhattan on Feb. 11 with their official performance of “Transcription as Translation.” 

The American Ballet Theatre Studio Company will perform with TŌN for the “Spring Benefit: TŌN + ABT Studio Company” concert at the Sosnoff Theater at the Fisher Center at Bard College. Conducted by Charles Barker, the performance will feature pieces by Gottschalk, Glass, Verdi, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Blick Bassy and Avro Pärt, with additional works to be announced. All proceeds will support TŌN’s graduate program and its students. “Spring Benefit: TŌN + ABT Studio Company” will begin on Feb. 28 and March 1, 2025 at 7:30 p.m. 

March

TŌN’s Free Music Series returns this season with conductor Zachary Schwartzman for “Joan Tower & Tchaikovsky’s 5th,” featuring cellist Raman Ramakrishnan. The performance will include moving pieces by Ludwig, Tower (with Ramakrishnan) and Tchaikovsky. The concert will be held at the Peter Norton Symphony Space in Manhattan on March 23, 2025 at 4 p.m.

April

The final performance at the Sosnoff Theater at the Fisher Center at Bard College for the 2025 winter/spring season will feature “Weber & ‘Laterna Magica’.” The concert will feature captivating works from European composers Saariaho, Maria von Weber and Magnard. The piece by Maria von Weber will feature Miles Wazni, winner of the 2023 Bard Conservatory Concerto Competition. “Weber & ‘Laterna Magica’” will take place on April 5 & 6, 2025 at 7 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively. 

TŌN’s Sight & Sound series begins at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (The MET) in Manhattan with “Schumann & Friedrich: Nature in Music & Art,” exploring the relationship between nature and the human soul in early 19th century Germany. The performance is in conjunction with the exhibition “Caspar David Friedrich: The Soul of Nature” and will feature Schumann’s “Symphony No. 3, Rhenish” with conductor Leon Botstein. The performance will take place on April 13, 2025 at 2 p.m. The exhibition will run from Feb. 8 – May 11, 2024 at The MET. 

May

TŌN will debut their first international performance in Germany at the Koblenz IMUKO Festival (Internationale Musik-Kontakte), with acclaimed cellist Benedict Kloeckner. The orchestra will perform pieces by Bruch, Schumann and Mendelhosson, conducted by Leon Botstein. This performance will occur on May 6, 2025 at 7:30 p.m. CET.   

The orchestra will continue their Germany tour in Nuremberg at the invitation of the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra. This performance honors the historic day marking Germany’s surrender in World War II, bringing an end to the conflict in Europe. Multiple pieces by Mendelssohn will be conducted by Leon Botstein and performed alongside Polish violinist Anna Rezniak and the Chamber Choir of the Nuremberg University of Music. This commemorative concert will begin at 8 p.m. CET on May 8, 2025. 

The final performance of the winter/spring season, “Fauré, Sargent & Paris,” will be performed at The MET in Manhattan, exploring the connection between orchestral music and the visual arts. The performance will feature pieces by Fauré with soloist Benjamin Truncale. This performance is in conjunction with the exhibition “Sargent and Paris,” available to the public from April 27 – Aug. 3, 2025 at The MET. The performance will take place on May 18, 2025 at 2 p.m.
