Jimkata Announces Release of New Album and Tour Dates

Ithaca electronic rock outfit Jimkata announced the long-anticipated released of their album In Motion.

The band is set to release their third full-length album on Feb. 12, 2016. They will tour in support of the new album but have released only a handful of dates including Albany and Syracuse.

In Motion is the band’s second fan-funded effort through PledgeMusic. The album is still available for pre-sale purchases through the site. The new album includes nine tracks, several of which have never been heard before. Jimkata is offering a sneak peek into the album’s sound with the track “In the Moment,” currently available via stream on Sound Cloud.

In early 2015, the quartet became a trio with the departure of their bassist David Rossi. Indobox’s Stephen Learson joined the trio on their 2015 winter tour. According to the press release announcing the album and tour, the band was forced off the road for most of the spring and summer, playing just a handful of festivals. However, the band views the time off as a positive in the album’s musical development.

According to Jimkata guitarist and front man Evan Friedell, the break gave the band the time to craft the album. “This is the first time we’ve been off from touring for a while,” said Friedell in the press release announcing In Motion. “We were sort of living like gypsies or nomads, living the road life. We’ve never had this much time to work on an album and just live with the songs. It’s been a creative, reflective time for us.”

In addition to the news of the In Motion release date, the band has also announced five winter tour dates that will be part of a lengthier winter tour to be announced later.
