FLX Music Announces Monthly Cash Prizes for Finger Lakes Artists

FLX Music, a music streaming and live events platform centering on the Finger Lakes region, has announced the launch of their new Band Bonus. This monthly cash prize will be awarded to a local band based on fan votes. To vote, fans just need to like, share, or stream their favorite songs.

The only bands eligible to compete for the Band Bonus are those with at least one upcoming show in the Finger Lakes region. In fact, these are the only bands available for streaming on FLX Music at all. Jason Bunnell, the founder of the site, explained that this way, “every song on the platform points to a stage nearby.” Bunnell’s mission with FLX Music is to make Finger Lakes live music easier to find and support.

In contrast with traditional streaming platforms, which pay their artists pennies, FLX Music aims to support local musicians financially by helping connect fans with bands’ live shows. Now, with the Band Bonus, the site is bringing financial support to artists more directly. The November winner of the prize will receive $500, and the December winner will win $1000. Bunnell hopes to continue offering $1000 prizes every month going forward.

The monthly competition is free to enter for all Finger Lakes bands. Fans vote by engaging with the artists’ music. Listening to a song gives the artist 1 vote (2 if the listener is signed in), and a listener who clicks on a shared link to a song counts as 1 additional vote. The voter’s strongest show of support, the like button, is worth 10 votes.

The competition’s leaderboard is publicly available all month on the FLX Music home page, and the winner of each month’s prize will be announced on the FLX Music website and Facebook page within the first week of the following month.
