Mick Fury’s Getting into an Irish State of Mind

Syracuse-born singer-songwriter Mick Fury released Irish State of Mind on August 26, his new album of contemporary Irish pub songs. Recorded in late 2025 and completed in Nashville in 2026, Fury turns a newfound connection to Ireland into a spirited musical celebration of friendship, drinking, and the stories that bring people together.

Mick Fury is an award winning singer-songwriter, composer, and storyteller, whose musical journey has taken him from Syracuse dive bars to Nashville and Hollywood. He’s performed on stages with acts including Stone Temple Pilots and Brothers Osborne, and composed music for the film Panama.

Today, Mick’s music blends rock, country, Americana, humor, and an unmistakable love of a good story. A trip to Ireland sparked a new musical obsession, inspiring him to explore traditional Irish instruments and write songs that became Irish State of Mind at his Nashville studio.

Equal parts heartfelt, hilarious, and boisterous, Irish State of Mind is the latest chapter in a career built on one simple philosophy Mick learned growing up in Syracuse: “You should be tough, and you should be honest, and you should be kind. That’s what New York taught me.”

The album is rooted in Irish music, featuring the sound of several traditional Irish instruments, such as the bouzouki, dulcimer, bodhran, and uilleann pipes. Alongside Fury, the album features performances from seven Irish-born musicians, including Syracuse native Deirdre McCarthy on the drums.

At the core of Irish State of Mind is celebration with others. In tracks like “God Created Whiskey” and fan-favorite “Tullamore Don’t,” the up-tempo dance sound is accompanied by lyrics encouraging community and call-and-response, drawing the audience in and including them in the fun.

The emotional crux of the album emerges in “Stay the Way That You Are (Sean’s),” a lovely ballad piece contemplating change and finding comfort in song, drinking, and familiarity. “Everything feels very heavy right now, and so embracing that mindset of what matters most is this moment, this cheers, this drink, this person you’re spending time with, that attitude brings a real sense of peace and presence that I think is desperately needed right now,” Fury says.

For Fury, an “Irish state of mind” is found in those around you, through celebrating life and the liberating act of allowing yourself to have fun.
