ALEXISONFIRE Celebrates 20th Anniversary of “Crisis” Album in Buffalo

Wednesday, August 12 was scattered with rain and sun all day, leaving the question, “will the show go on tonight,” but by the time the gates opened to Outer Harbor Live at Terminal B, the sky showed no signs of ruining what would become a ground shaking live performance.

With a stacked lineup, including Spaced, Snapcase and Underoath alongside the Canadian post-hardcore headliners, Alexisonfire. The venue filled, layers deep, with a crowd ready to relive the epic album Crisis originally released in 2006, following up their two previous albums, including their self-titled album which saw the release of the single “.44 Caliber Love Letter” that still rings in Alexis’ fans heads. The beautiful venue, the breeze off of the water and Alexisonfire Buffalo Bills themed jerseys throughout the crowd, all without a clue of the musical decimation that was about to fall upon them, and with all ready to go, the crew gave the signal for Spaced to take the stage, and the bar for live performance hardcore music was raised a few notches.

Spaced kicking off the show in style

Spaced, a Buffalo native, hard rock/hardcore band, formed in 2021, led by vocalist Lexi Reyngoudt, guitarists Joe Morganti and Donny Arthur, bassist John Vaughan and drummer Dan McCormick delivered a hard hitting set with vocals not limited by a female lead, a band completely in sync with one another is what Spaced showed to the crowd at Terminal B. Their newest album, This Is All We Ever Get in 2024 has propelled the band to the next level in their music and performances, as their tour will take them to Dublin, Ireland and the United Kingdom after their hometown stop. Their grunge sound stands out among newer bands and is instantly recognizable, from the puck rock style drumming to the early 90’s grunge guitar.

Setlist: No Escape, Cause and Effect, Rat Race, Big Picture, Boomerang, Tear it Apart, Prove You Wrong, Pressure, Dog Bite, How Did It Come to This, Tear Me Down, The Difference, Your Universe, Landslide

Snapcase frontman Taberski lying down vocals

In 2005 Snapcase, a 14-year veteran band, took their final show to their hometown of Buffalo at The Sphere, they have since reunited to play in festivals and for special occasions, this was one of those occasions, and you would never be able to tell this is not an actively touring band. With a list of past members that have come and gone, Snapcase now includes, Daryl Taberski for vocals, John Salemi and Frank Vicario on guitar, bassist Dustin Perry and Timothy Redmond on the drums, Taberski being the only remaining original member, and this is a powerhouse of musical talent and crowd work that should inspire musicians today to do better. The band is heavily rooted in the grunge and punk rock scene of the early 1990’s and this is shown in their music, with hints of bands like Rage Against the Machine buried into their inspiration, which gives them a stead and loyal stream of fans for support. The veteran band didn’t disappoint and delivered a spectacular performance getting the crowd involved and often standing on the speakers to get closer to the mass of cheers from their fans, a must see for any rock fan.

Setlist: Harrison Bergeron, Cognition, Clobberin’ Time, Energy Dome, Exile Etiquette, She Suffocates, Aperture. 10AM, Zombie Prescription, Coagulate, Caboose

Underoath sets the stage with high energy and amazing light show

As the sun was beginning to set over the Buffalo harbor, Underoath took the stage like professionals, with deafening cheers coming from every direction, they wasted no time getting right to the soul of hard, slap you in the face, music. A steady lineup with Spencer Chamberlain on the vocals, bassist Grant Brandell, guitarist Tim McTague, Christopher Dudley on the keys and synth and the only remaining original member, Aaron Gillespie on the drums, and previous members of the band with a run time spanning since 1999, with 10 studio albums, the most recent being Underoath’s  2025 release of The Place After This One. Not only a stellar stage performance, but all-around good guys, with conversation circling backstage, the Tampa based band had brought a friend to the show for his birthday and surprised him with the headliners new vinyl signed by the members of Alexisonfire. Even reminiscing about the first tour for Warped Tour in 2004 and all that came with it, Underoath, in person, is just like their music, emotional, meaningful and just great in general.

Setlist: Breathing In A New Mentality, Dangerous Business, All The Love Is Gone, Damn Excuses, Reinventing Your Exit, On My Teeth, Down Set Go, Too Bright, And Then There Was Nothing, Hallelujah, Pneumonia, Generations, A Boy Brushed Red

Alexisonfire frontman Pettit fueling off the crowds energy

The moment had come, the once, massive venue, now seemed not to have enough room to fit everyone and it was tight quarters if you wanted to get anywhere near the stage, which was perfectly fine with everybody because as Alexisonfire took the stage one by one, the entire crowd turned up to 11 with excitement. The 20th anniversary of the album Crisis, a pivotal album for the hardcore world at that time while their second album was good, it couldn’t match the popularity of “.44 Caliber Love Letter” and Crisis was the answer that every fan was looking for. Alexisonfire consists of Dallas Green on rhythm guitar and vocals, Wade MacNiel for lead guitar, George Pettit on lead vocals, bassist Chris Steele and drummer Jordan Hastings almost the entire original lineup still together to this day. The replaying of Crisis was absolute genius and was performed with grandeur and next level stage control, at one point tearing apart a beach ball that landed on the stage, and later, bending a microphone stand from the pure aura that radiated from Terminal B that night. And on the song breaks, Pettit would talk about the bands beginnings and breaking into the United States music scene through venues right in Buffalo, over the border from where the band hails, St Cathrines, Ontario. Canada.
