Syracuse rock band Mimicking Mars is coming out with their new single. “Zachary Thompson” is their newest track set to release on July 21, their ninth studio release overall. The track was recorded and produced by the four-piece themselves.
Originally from Monroe, the rock band formed as a musical escape during the pandemic in high school, hence their jam style. With some psychedelic influences, they have received recognition from their counterparts such as The Grateful Dead.
Although they are a young band, they are a force to be reckoned with. Their stage presence brings high energy and amazing chemistry to put on an unforgettable performance. As a creative front, Mimicking Mars shares their music and creativity with the audience in pure form.
The last two years have seen great success for the band. In 2024, they released their debut album Janky Jones & The Blackjack Blues. In 2025, they played with fellow rock bands Kendall Street Company, Big Shrimp, and Jakob’s Castle. 2026 is shaping up to be another big year for them.
Jeremy Lanuti leads on the vocals of “Zachary Thompson” before the band breaks out into a major jam break featuring a saxophone. With a smooth return to the chorus at the end, the song ends with a big jam rock ending.
The single is a 6-minute jam theme similar to the style of Phish and Primus. According to the band, the song is about “being a freshman your first week of college, not knowing where to get drunk.”
Of course, the band members know very well about that experience. All five of its members are students who attend Syracuse University and regularly headline shows in the area.
