Cobrah Brings Club Culture to Brooklyn Paramount

On Friday, May 8, Brooklyn Paramount hosted another sold-out crowd for Swedish singer Cobrah. New York fans came prepared to dance and party the night away on the last U.S. stop of the Torn Tour.

Hailing from Gothenburg, Sweden, Cobrah — the stage name of Clara Christensen — is an electropop singer and producer known for making alluring club music. Heavily inspired by both ballroom culture and BDSM, she makes timeless beats particularly loved by LGBTQ+ audiences. Although she’s been active since 2018, Cobrah released her debut studio album, Torn, in March after making multiple EPs.

At 10 PM, two backup dancers arrived onto the dimly-lit stage when the track began for set-starter “Hit Girl.” Dressed in a latex nude corset and matching pumps, Cobrah seductively strutted onto stage to sing the first verse. The entire set was highly choreographed between the three. When interacting together, there was an electric chemistry that perfectly complimented the artist’s sensual discography.

“I see you all already taking out your phones,” the singer said, “so you better tag me on IG.” The high-intensity rhythm of “IG” filled the historical venue as the three continued their perfected choreography. Climbing onto the raised framed platforms lining the stage, Cobrah and her dancers looked out at the sea of people before the lights dimmed red for fan-favorite “Hush.” Striking a pose center-stage, the performer sung seductively to her dancers as they stood rooted in their positions. Towards the end of the song, the Swedish singer laid across the stage, heels kicked back, as she playfully put on a show for the crowd.

While the majority of her songs are fast-paced, the set slowed down for “Charming.” Having always wanted a song for people to sway to amongst her electropop hits, she asked the crowd to raise their phone flashlights while she performed alone for the first time of the night.

Amping the energy back up for the second half of the set, the center framed platform opened up to make a small raised stage. During “Really Hard,” the singer watched the crowd from above as her dancers seductively soloed in front of her, later having them join her. Lowering heel to neck, Cobrah and her backup dancer sensually moved closer to each other before parting at the last note.

Ending the night with FEMININE ENERGY and GOOD PUSS, the crowd turned the historic venue into a nightclub. As they left, fans only wished that the show was longer than an hour. However, many were expected to extend the night at LoHi, where the official GAGBALL Torn Tour afterparty was taking place with Cobrah and opener DJ Latex.
