New Hollow and The Band Light Make Buffalo Debut at Iron Works

New Hollow and The Band Light co-headlined at Buffalo Iron Works on Friday, March 7th. This was both bands’ first time visiting The Queen City, and it was evident that it meant an exciting night not just for the bands but for fans as well.

New Hollow, formed in 2009 in New Albany, Ohio, though currently based in Nashville, Tennessee, opened the night, bringing their classic rock sound from songs like ‘She Ain’t You’ and ‘HAPPY’, which just came out last summer. Front man Mookie Clouse joked, “I think we’re a little happy”, compared to the song’s lyrics, “But I’m not even a little, not even a little, happy.”

The band repeatedly joked with fans along the barricade throughout their set, opening the crowd to dancing and singing along with them. After a few originals, they covered ‘Casual’ by Chappell Roan. Looking at faces in the venue, you could see the surprised expressions. Audience members were impressed by this cover choice; some chattered after its conclusion on how well-executed it was.

The Band Light took the stage next. The Nashville, Tennessee-based band has been growing in popularity after opening for the second day of Louis Tomlinson’s ‘Away From Home’ Festival held last fall in Cooperstown, New York.

Two fans had brought flowers for the band in reference to their song ‘Flower Song.’ The band graciously accepted the gesture, going as far as having them on stage for the rest of the set. These fans also gave flowers to New Hollow after how impressed they were by their performance.

They played some of their hits, such as ‘Turning Red’ and ‘Crash My Car’, though their standout moment of the night was covering ‘American Girls’ by Harry Styles, nearly 20 hours after its release. Singer Konnor Dolberry talked about how they spent their ride to Buffalo practicing for tonight’s show and to “give them some grace.” Fans lit up at their quick execution of the song after such an impressive amount of time.

As the night wrapped fans stayed back to talk and get photos with both bands before their drives, one audience member prepared for her 9-hour-long bus ride back to New York City. The commitment of the crowd did not go unnoticed by band members, each band telling everyone to get home safe and thanks for coming.
