The eighth annual Washington Heights Jazz Festival is here. On November 6 – 9, enjoy free and affordable jazz music around Washington Heights. This year’s festival features a wide array of recognized artists.
To kick the festival off, Annette Aguilar’s String Beans will display their specialized Latin and Brazilian percussion. Aguilar has previously shared the stage with legendary musicians like Stevie Wonder and Darlene Love. In this year’s festival, Annette Aguilar’s String Beans will be joined by internationally acclaimed trumpeter Rachel Therrien at the pre-Festival party at the United Palace, 4140 Broadway, on November 3 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

On November 6, the Paul Jost Quartet will be performing at Le Cheile, 839 W. 181st. Described as a “passionate storyteller,” Jost has performed worldwide with recent tours in Asia and Europe. Previously performing alongside musicians such as Mark Murphy, Bucky Pizzarelli, and Ann Hampton Calloway, Jost launched his solo career in 2014, embarking on his debut album “Breaking Through” the same year, as well as recent appearances on PBS and SiriusXM.
This year’s Jazz WaHi Composition Competition winner Yotam Ishay Septet will be returning to Washington Heights on November 8 for a jazz performance rooted in impressionistic harmony, Mediterranean grooves, and improvisation. Hailing from the Berklee College of Music, the GRAMMY-nominated artist has since released three albums, Opus, SEED, and SPROUT.
Grounded in the idea that no one should miss out on great music because of financial circumstances, admission for ticketed performances is $15, while free performances are also available.
