Dive Presents has three shows coming up at No Fun in Troy in May, with national touring acts complemented by some of our local performers.

Following a sold out show with Cursive on April 16, these gigs are designed to pack the venue’s dance floor throughout May. Genre bending array of gigs range from fuzzed out psych to intimate acoustic indie sets. Upcoming Dive Presents performances include the following from LA Witch (May 6), Sunflower Bean (May 15) & Christopher Owens of Girls (May 27).

May 6 – LA Witch, Daiistar & Flavour
L.A. Witch is an American garage-rock trio formed in Los Angeles, California in 2011. The band’s sound has been described as a “mix of forlorn psych folk, lethargic lo-fi blues and boozy garage rock drones steeped in moody, drugged-out surf reverb.” The group’s influences include Black Sabbath, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, and seminal L.A. punk rock bands X and the Gun Club.
Daiistar is an Alt-Indie band formed in Austin, Texas in the spring of 2020. The band takes their inspiration from the neo-psychedelic era of the 80s and 90s (The Jesus and Mary Chain, Spacemen 3, Primal Scream) and pulls it into the future with modulating synthesizers, heavy guitars, bouncing bass lines, and spiraling hooks, creating a narcotic blend of noise and melody.

May 15 – Sunflower Bean & Laveda
New York trio Sunflower Bean have made a name for themselves as one of the city’s quintessential indie rock bands over the past decade since forming in 2013. What started as a project of three high schoolers soon turned into a band with chart-topping releases, sold-out tour dates, international festival slots, wide-spread critical acclaim, and three remarkable full-length albums under their belt.
Known for their improvisational live performances the band has toured the world extensively, as both headliners and as support for artists such as Beck, The Strokes, Cage the Elephant, Interpol, Courtney Barnett, The Pixies, The Kills, DIIV, Courtney Barnett, Wolf Alice and more. They have also performed at major festivals like Glastonbury, Governors Ball, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Reading & Leeds, and opened for Bernie Sanders during his primary campaign rallies.
May 27 – Christopher Owens, Blue Ranger & Bruiser And Bicycle Vibe – Indie / Alternative.
Not long after the release of Girls second album “Father, Son, Holy Ghost” singer and frontman Christopher Owens announced that he was leaving the formative indie duo in pursuit of a solo career. Following the releases of 2011’s “Lysandre”, 2014’s “A New Testament”, and 2015’s “Chrissybaby Forever”, he went on to release more music in 2017 with Curls. Since then, he’s continued to lead a life marked by both extraordinary highs and profound lows.
In 2024, he left a bittersweet San Francisco and moved to New York, also reuniting with home label True Panther Records (who released the original Girls records). This July, he releases his first single in seven years, “I Think About Heaven”, a tenderly optimistic song about a renewed love of music and restored sense of purpose off newest record “I Wanna Run Barefoot Through Your Hair”.
All presales for these Dive Presents shows get patrons entered to win a vinyl record from the headlining band of each show. Tickets can be purchased at nofuntroy.eventbrite.com.
