Opera Saratoga to Perform ‘La Traviata’ for Winter Opera in Concert

Following the sold-out success of last year’s La bohème, Opera Saratoga has announced they will perform La Traviata for this year’s second winter opera in concert. The concert will take place on Friday, December 4 at 7 PM at Universal Preservation Hall in downtown Saratoga Springs.

A favorite among opera lovers, La Traviata tells the story of Violetta Valéry, a Parisian courtesan who falls in love with nobleman Alfredo Germont. Despite his family’s disapproval and her declining health, they share one of the greatest love stories of all time. This Verdi masterpiece has influenced iconic films such as Pretty Woman and Moulin Rouge.

Opera Saratoga’s performance of La Traviata will feature a cast of rising opera stars including Mikayla Sager as Violetta, Daniel O’Hearn as Alfredo Germont, and Greg Feldmann as Giorgio Germont. Led by Andrew Burger, the Excelsior Vocal Ensemble will also support the performance. With a run time of 85 minutes, the production will feature music direction by pianist Adam Nielsen, who will accompany the evening. General and Artistic Director Mary Birnbaum will stage the proceedings, which will feature interstitial narration. The performance will be sung in Italian, with English supertitles.

Founded in 1962, Opera Saratoga has been putting on incredible performances for the past sixty years. The company is known for its vibrant summer festival in Saratoga Springs, presenting a dynamic mix of classic operas, contemporary works, and innovative productions. They have received national recognition for developing emerging artists and bringing compelling storytelling to the stage.
