A construction project to make safety and utility improvements to the amphitheater at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) is now under way. This $2 million undertaking, which includes improvements to the venue’s heating and electrical systems, is scheduled to conclude in spring 2027.

Set in the scenic 2,500-acre Saratoga Spa State Park, SPAC is the Capital Region’s largest outdoor entertainment venue. Since its opening in 1966, this beloved venue has hosted a wide range of events, including regular performances from their artistic partners New York City Ballet, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. SPAC also hosts the Saratoga Jazz Festival each year. With a total capacity of 25,000 between the sheltered seats and the surrounding lawn, SPAC hosts 500,000 guests annually.

SPAC also provides year-round arts programming at SPAC School of the Arts. This facility offers classes in music, theater, and dance to students of all ages, reaching more than 50,000 community members each year.

The current SPAC construction project involves replacing three gas-fired water heaters with electric heaters, improving the venue’s backstage electrical system, and installing a new elevator. These upgrades are funded by the capital budget of New York’s Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

In addition to the amphitheater construction project, renovation work is currently ongoing at SPAC’s Spa Little Theater, an intimate 500-seat venue also located in Saratoga Spa State Park. This $12 million renovation project includes updating the seating plan and constructing a new bar area, while preserving the venue’s historical features such as the original wood floors and fireplaces. The Spa Little Theater is scheduled to reopen this December.
