Young Thug didn’t come to Central Park simply to remind New York of his own legacy. On Sunday, September 13, the Atlanta superstar used the Manhattan stop at the Central Park Summerstage of YSL Records’ The New Generation Tour to showcase what comes next.
With NAV serving as special guest and a roster of rising Young Stoner Life artists including Tezzus, Diamond*, 1300SAINT, Iyrus, Yung Kayo and others taking the SummerStage platform, the night balanced YSL’s established sound with the label’s emerging generation. The tour itself marks Young Thug’s first official headlining run since 2019 and was built specifically around introducing the next chapter of YSL.
The night was as much an introduction to YSL’s future as it was a celebration of the artists who helped build its identity. Tezzus and Diamond* were among the evening’s most prominent representatives of that new generation. Both were officially part of the Central Park lineup alongside 1300SAINT, Iyrus and Yung Kayo.
NAV shifted the show from showcase mode into a full-scale headlining-caliber performance. The Toronto rapper arrived with a catalog tailor-made for a crowd familiar with the last decade of melodic trap. His set moved through records including “Never Sleep,” “Recap,” “Minute,” “Wanted You,” “Champion,” “Myself” and “Tap,” alongside collaborative favorites such as “Baguettes in the Face,” “beibs in the trap” and “Lemonade.”
When Thug finally took control of the stage, the atmosphere changed immediately. His appearance carried additional significance considering The New Generation Tour is his first official headlining run since 2019. After years in which his career unfolded far beyond the concert stage, seeing Thug back at the center of his own tour gave the New York performance the feeling of both a return and a reset.
That became clearest when members of the new generation joined him for material from the YSL catalog. Tezzus joined Thug for “Consummate” and “ØWAYSL,” while Tezzus and Diamond* appeared together during “Cha Ney Ney.” “Bvlgari” expanded the stage even further, bringing Tezzus together with several members of the YSL family. The presentation made Thug’s intentions clear: these weren’t simply artists filling time before the headliner. He was putting them beside him.
For longtime fans, Central Park provided another opportunity to hear records that helped reshape modern Hip-Hop. For those discovering the younger YSL artists for the first time, it served as an introduction. And for Young Thug, The New Generation Tour represented something bigger than a return to headlining. It was an opportunity to show New York that the YSL story is still being written.
