Albany’s Lost Radio Rounders are keeping America 250: Songs & Stories rolling with two more performances scheduled before fall. The acoustic trio will perform Aug. 28 at Valley Falls Free Library and Sept. 26 at Nassau Free Library, continuing a library tour that has brought the musical history program to audiences across the region.
Since debuting America 250: Songs & Stories in January at Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, the trio has performed the program at eight libraries across four counties, along with 13 performances for historical societies and private groups.
Lost Radio Rounders are a true acoustic trio featuring Tom Lindsay on guitar and vocals, Paul “Bowtie” Jossman on banjo and guitar, and Michael Eck on mandolin and guitar. Their immersive performances cover different aspects of American musical history and are built around acoustic instruments, with little reliance on amplification or other stage equipment.
The group keeps America 250: Songs & Stories fresh by changing its set list for every performance. Across 22 shows, no two set lists have been the same, according to the trio.
“We have so much great material to choose from, and so many topics we can cover,” Eck said.
The program also leaves room for humor, something Lindsay said often surprises audiences.
“A library’s mission is to inform and entertain, and that is exactly what our programs do,” Lindsay said. “You get harmony, history, and a dash of humor; and that last part often takes folks by surprise.”
The Rounders have welcomed several guest musicians during the program’s run, including Bill Akerbauer of Insolent Willies, Bob Button of The Hammerhead Horns and Steven “Cousin Clyde” Davies. Davies previously performed alongside Jossman in the Ramblin Jug Stompers, Blotto and the Star Spangled Washboard Band.
