After two days of punk, alternative rock, reggae and ska, the 2026 Great South Bay Music Festival shifted gears on Saturday, delivering its most improvisational day of the weekend. Shorefront Park welcomed fans of Americana, bluegrass, blues, Southern rock and jam music as Gov’t Mule closed the night with a nearly 90-minute set, while Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers, Sierra Hull, LaMP and a full slate of regional acts kept music flowing across all three stages.

The Main Stage opened with Kerry Kearney’s Cajun Revue before LaMP brought its blend of groove-heavy improvisation to the waterfront. Grammy-winning mandolin virtuoso Sierra Hull followed with a technically dazzling performance that bridged bluegrass, folk and progressive acoustic music, setting the stage for one of the day’s most anticipated performances.

Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers took over during the evening with a set that balanced familiar favorites and newer material. Hornsby opened with “Great Divide” before moving into a solo performance of “Barren Ground” that transitioned into “My Resolve.” The band continued with “Living in the Sunshine,” “The Way It Is,” “Over the Rise,” “Prairie Dog Town,” “Memory Palace,” and closed with “Ecstatic.” The performance showcased the musical freedom that has made Hornsby one of the most respected live performers of the past four decades, blending jazz, rock, Americana and improvisation into a unique festival set.

As darkness settled over Shorefront Park, Gov’t Mule delivered the night’s headlining performance. Warren Haynes and company leaned into the band’s signature mix of Southern rock, blues and extended jams, opening with “Bad Little Doggie” before working through fan favorites including “Lay Your Burden Down,” “Slackjaw Jezebel,” and an expansive “Game Face / Mountain Jam / Game Face.”

One of the evening’s highlights came when Bruce Hornsby returned to the stage during Jerry Garcia’s “Loser.” Hornsby contributed vocals and Wurlitzer while John Mailander joined on fiddle, creating one of the festival’s most memorable collaborations. Gov’t Mule continued with “Funny Little Tragedy,” “Thorazine Shuffle,” “Mule,” and closed the night with the Allman Brothers Band classic “Soulshine,” sending fans home after another memorable evening on the Patchogue waterfront.

Away from the Main Stage, festivalgoers had no shortage of music to discover. The Bandshell featured performances from Orchyd, Circus Mind, Soundswell, Ernie and the Band, and blues guitarist Quinn Sullivan, while the Jambalaya Stage showcased School of Rock Farmingdale, Anything Ever, Firetog & Co., The Ripple Allstars, The Allmost Brothers Band and Robinson Treacher, highlighting the festival’s continued commitment to supporting local and regional artists alongside nationally touring acts.
